Double Garage Division - Isabelle from Ballarat
Question
We have a double garage that is under the main house roof and would like to create more living space. Do we need a permit to cut the garage in half and make it into another bedroom and kids play area? The remaining area in the garage will still be single car garage.
Answer
With the roof already existing and as long as there are no structural changes or additions you shouldn’t need a permit. Essentially you are just partitioning off an area for alternate useand as long as you are not installing plumbing for a bathroom you should be ok. For peace of mind you should talk to a Building Consultant and either have them inspect the building or to save costs, you can take your plans to them.
