Handy Storage Solutions
Are you trying to find storage space where there doesn’t seem to be any?
Smart use of storage space means that you can increase and expand on the space that you already have without paying a lot of money to renovate, extend, or on expensive storage systems. Try these 15 handy hints in your home & you will realise that you can make a feature out of storage spaces.

1. A purpose built bookcase is a great idea for a whole length of wall that you don't normally use & will utilise all of the space from floor to ceiling.
2. Create attractive storage spaces using built-in wardrobe seats; conceal the space below with a lid & some cushioned seating.
3. If the cavity for your fridge is bigger than the fridge itself, install pigeon-hole style cavities to store wine bottles, it looks great and is practical.
4. Use the space behind doorways for storage, particularly behind the front & back doors by hanging decorative hooks to hang coats, hats & umbrellas.
5. Instead of having a huge collection of shoe boxes, storage boxes etc, underneath your bed, try shallow plastic storage containers with wheels that can easily be rolled in & out from under your bed.
6. In small rooms, instead of having a big bulky T.V cabinet, use a special wall bracket to mount your T.V and DVD player on. It keeps the floor space clear and the T.V out of the way.
7. Not having enough towel hanging space can be a problem in some homes, a simple way to fix this is to find an old wooden ladder, give it a quick coat of paint to co-ordinate with your bathroom or just clear coat it, and place it against the wall on an angle so that all of the towels fall away from each other.
8. Lazy Susan's can be very convenient in hard to reach corner cabinets in kitchens, the same applies to corner cabinets in bathrooms & laundries.
9. Add a decorative touch to your living or family area by having pigeon-hole cabinetry installed into the walls. These are great for displaying items of interest such as family photo's and breakable items because they cannot get knocked over as they may on a freestanding unit.
10. Do you have staircase which has an empty cavity underneath it? Have a door, shelves and light installed under your staircase creating a great place to store items that do not get used very often.
11. Another area that can be used to store items that are not used often is the roof cavity in your home.
12. Long items such as ladders etc from the garage can be stored by hanging them from the ceiling with a pulley system.
13. Sporting equipment can be awkward to store, so why not have a storage area dedicated to just sporting equipment? Or try brackets on garage walls.
14. Instead of having a whole home office, try a self contained office unit to store your computer, books & stationary, close to the doors & hidden from sight.
15. Those sleek chrome and black newspaper racks that you see in cafes can look great in your family/lounge area for magazines and books.
